Intern Placement

OIA is coordinating the internship program on behalf of our member agencies. Interns will be interviewed, selected, paid and employed by the respective agency. The HR policies and guidelines of the agency will apply to the internship. The pay range will be $17 to $18/hr depending on experience and location. Students who successfully complete the internship will also receive a $500 scholarship from the OIA Foundation.

They are seeking students interested in exploring an insurance agency career post-graduation. Either a Sales/Producer Career or Account Management/Service career path.

The ideal candidate will have a sincere interest in exploring a sales and/or service career with an Independent Agency. Key competencies include personal initiative, active learner, communication, relationship building, customer service, and sales.

Agencies are looking to turn internships into full time job offers post-graduation. Extended part time work opportunities may also exist post internship.

Job Description

The internship will provide a broad overview of a career within an independent insurance agency. Interns will be exposed to the various insurance processes required to be a successful agency including service, sales, marketing, underwriting, & claims. Interns will learn to perform non-licensed customer service tasks and build their insurance acumen. Interns may be assigned special projects ranging from building marketing plans, customer contact, service enhancements, research, data analytics, and other tasks that will benefit the agency and provide additional learning opportunities.

Interns will have the opportunity to:

Observe Personal and Commercial Lines Accounts Managers. Work on small projects within each department to use our AMS, work with the team, and learn basics of workflows.

Assist in compiling quoting comparisons for new and renewal customers

Shadow a Producer from prospecting through the sale. Listen in on prospecting call, go out on client visits, attend 1st meetings and sales presentations.

Assist in completing property inspections with the goal of learning pro-active front-line underwriting.

Assist in creating marketing strategies to increase community visibility.

Requirements

Interest in exploring a career with an Independent Insurance Agency in Clarksburg/Chillicothe, OH

Ideally a junior or senior in college or community college student open to working full/part time post internship.
