Job Description

The BDC Associate is responsible for handling inbound and outbound customer communication related to internet leads, phone inquiries, and digital engagement. This role serves as the first point of contact for many customers and plays a critical role in creating a strong first impression of Barker Motor Company.

The primary objective of this role is to respond quickly and professionally to incoming leads, build rapport with customers, and successfully set qualified appointments for the sales team. This position is not responsible for selling vehicles directly, but rather for generating opportunities that lead to sales.

The BDC Associate is expected to represent Barker Motor Company with professionalism, urgency, and clarity, while contributing to a high-performance, team-oriented environment focused on growth and customer experience.

The BDC Associate will report to and work closely with the General Sales Manager, using their skills in the following areas:


Major Responsibilities and Activities:

  • Answer all incoming phone calls related to sales inquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Respond to all internet leads (email, website, third-party platforms) quickly and effectively
  • Engage customers via phone, text, and email to gather information and build rapport
  • Set qualified appointments for the sales team and confirm attendance
  • Follow up consistently with unsold leads using structured follow-up processes
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all customer interactions in the CRM
  • Work closely with the sales team to ensure smooth handoff of appointments
  • Re-engage past leads and unsold opportunities to generate additional appointments
  • Meet or exceed monthly targets for: Appointments set, Appointments shown, Vehicles sold from appointments.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk the lot, sit or stand for extended periods, talk, hear, use hands to write and operate a computer or phone. Must be able to occasionally lift or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate vehicles for customer test drives or inventory management.

Salary Range: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year

About Barker Motor Company

Barker Motor Company began in 1935 when Alden F. Barker II opened an Oldsmobile dealership in Bloomington, Illinois. In 1945, the dealership moved to North Lee Street, and in 1956, Alden’s sons Al and Bill took over. Over the decades, Barker expanded by adding the Cadillac franchise in 1978, the GMC franchise in 1994, and the Chevrolet franchise in Lexington in 2004.

In 1999, the dealership was purchased by Dan Traeger and Tim Johnson, and Barker continued to grow. By 2011, GM awarded Barker the Buick franchise. In 2012, we opened a new showroom and service facility designed to make the customer experience even better, complete with comfortable waiting areas, free coffee and snacks, and a play area for kids.
